Major Depressive Disorder (MDD):

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is characterized by a persistent feeling of sadness or a loss of interest in activities once found enjoyable, lasting for at least two weeks. It’s a prevalent condition, with nearly 15% of U.S. adults experiencing a major depressive episode at some point in their lives. Symptoms of MDD include fatigue, difficulty concentrating, feelings of hopelessness, thoughts of death or dying, and changes in appetite and sleep patterns. However, MDD can also present with additional symptoms such as anxiety, physical discomfort, and heightened sensitivity to social interactions. It’s not uncommon for depression to develop as a result of severe anxiety. In children, symptoms may manifest as irritability, social withdrawal, low self-esteem, and academic difficulties.
